Helen Ruffin Reading Bowl

The Helen Ruffin Reading Bowl is a competitive reading team made up of ten enthusiastic 4th and 5th grade students who represent our school in competitions at the district, regional, divisional, and state levels.

The competition was founded by Helen Ruffin, a visionary media specialist who sought to motivate students in grades 4–12 to develop a love of reading through a fun and challenging academic competition based on selected books.

In recent years, our team has enjoyed remarkable success—winning at the district, regional, and divisional levels, and capturing the State Championship titles in 2021 and 2024, as well as tying for the championship in 2020 when the final competition was canceled due to COVID-19.
